Jamshedpur, Dec 3: The death of Constable Johan Singh, who allegedly fell from the roof stairs at Golmuri Police Center on the night of November 1, 2023, has taken a new turn. Following a post-mortem report and a review of the case diary, the Golmuri Police have registered a murder case against Havildar Kanhai Ram, Constable Rajdev Oraon, and Constable Sandeep Ram. The case, initially thought to be an accidental death, is now being investigated as a murder by conspiracy.
The post-mortem report raised suspicions as it revealed multiple injuries on Johan’s body, including marks on his earlobe, nose, head, and limbs, which could not have been caused by a fall. “The injuries suggest that Johan Singh was beaten,” said a post-mortem expert, casting doubt on the initial fall theory.
The investigation has also uncovered a financial dispute between Johan and Constable Sandeep Ram, who allegedly demanded money from Johan. Sandeep had reportedly threatened Johan if he didn’t pay. Johan’s wife had mentioned this issue to the police shortly after the incident, suspecting foul play by his colleagues. Johan’s father also provided information about the money transaction, raising further doubts about the nature of his death.
The incident occurred when Johan reportedly fell from the roof ladder of the barrack at the Golmuri Police line. He was rushed to MGM Hospital and later referred to TMH, where he was declared dead. His body was then brought back to the police centre before being handed over to the family.
The police have now reopened the investigation and are pursuing leads connected to both the financial dispute and the suspicious circumstances surrounding Johan Singh’s death.
