Jamshedpur: Day 4 of Samvaad celebrates tribal storytelling through music and cinema

Indigenous filmmakers and musicians shine on the penultimate day

Jamshedpur, November 18: The fourth day of Samvaad 2024 was dedicated to tribal storytelling through the mediums of music and cinema.

Workshops and panels at Tribal Culture Centre, Sonari, like “Portrait in Landscape” and “Human Pharmacopeia”, highlighted the role of tribal health systems and the challenges faced by traditional healers in contemporary society.

It also focussed on finding ways to assert the efficacy of tribal healing practises in modern medicine.

The cinematic sessions, under the theme “Lights, Camera, Action!”, explored how filmmaking can capture and amplify tribal narratives.

These sessions were held at Centre for Excellence, Jamshedpur, and drew participation from emerging filmmakers and tribal storytellers.

The evening performances at Gopal Maidan featured the celebrated “Rhythms of the Earth” ensemble, followed by a soulful performance by Guru Rewben, a pioneer of Naga folk blues.

These acts reflected the rich diversity of tribal music, blending tradition with heritage.
