Jamshedpur: Intensive dengue prevention campaign underway, civic bodies take action

Jamshedpur: In a proactive measure to combat the threat of dengue and prevent its spread, municipal bodies have launched a series of intensive campaigns aimed at eradicating dengue larvae, conducting house-to-house inspections, fogging, and cleaning drains. These concerted efforts seek to safeguard public health and curtail the proliferation of dengue.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, has been a persistent concern in many regions. In response, municipal authorities have initiated comprehensive programs to minimize the risk and impact of the disease.

One of the key components of these campaigns is anti-larvae spraying, which targets areas where dengue-causing mosquitoes breed. By eliminating mosquito larvae at their source, authorities aim to significantly reduce the mosquito population.

House-to-house checks are another crucial aspect of the strategy. Trained teams visit households to inspect for potential breeding sites and educate residents on effective preventive measures. Ensuring that containers such as coolers, pots, tires, and bottles are regularly cleaned to prevent the accumulation of stagnant water is emphasized. Stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes and is a major factor in the disease’s transmission.

Fogging operations are conducted to kill adult mosquitoes in and around residential areas. This proactive approach not only reduces the risk of dengue transmission but also provides immediate relief to residents by decreasing the mosquito population.

Additionally, cleaning and clearing of drains are being carried out to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites in urban areas. Keeping drains free from debris and stagnant water is essential to curbing the spread of dengue.

“As part of the campaign, the public is urged to take personal precautions to protect themselves from dengue. Individuals are advised to wear long-sleeved clothing to minimize exposure to mosquitoes and to use mosquito nets while sleeping. These measures are essential in reducing the risk of mosquito bites, which are the primary mode of dengue transmission,” said an official.

This collaborative effort between municipal authorities and the public aims to create a safer and healthier environment.
