Jamshedpur, April 27: Acting on the directives of the Jharkhand High Court, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has initiated demolition proceedings against buildings found in violation of approved maps. In a coordinated effort led by the Dhalbhum SDO, accompanied by officials from Jamshedpur CO, JNAC, and the Bistupur police, a bulldozer was deployed at Hotel Center Point to dismantle illegal constructions.

The crackdown targets 21 buildings identified by JNAC for various deviations, including exceeding permitted height limits, converting parking spaces into commercial complexes, and engaging in unauthorized commercial activities such as hotels and warehouses. The court’s intervention stems from a public interest litigation filed by Sakchi resident Rakesh Jha, highlighting the persistence of map deviations despite previous court orders dating back to 2010.

The case is slated for a hearing on April 30 at the Jharkhand High Court, where progress on demolition actions will be reviewed. During a recent hearing, the court emphasized the urgency of demolishing illegal constructions and scrutinizing the commission’s report on the matter. Notably, the court expressed surprise at the discovery of kitchens built in basements intended for parking.
