Focus on education while pursuing sports dreams: Sunil Gavaskar to Jamshedpur youth

Jamshedpur, April 2: The city of Jamshedpur witnessed a momentous occasion as cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar graced the Kusum Kamani Auditorium at Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES) for an engaging session with school students. Titled “Sunny Evening,” the event proved to be a vibrant convergence of inspiration and learning.

During his interaction with the students, Gavaskar emphasized the importance of education alongside sports, encouraging young enthusiasts to prioritize their studies. Drawing from his own experiences, he highlighted how education enhances strategic thinking and performance on the field, echoing the sentiments instilled in him by his father, who urged him to complete his degree.

The highlight of the event was Gavaskar’s insightful talk on ‘Leadership and Cricket,’ where he delved into the invaluable role of education in shaping successful athletes.

The evening commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, graced by esteemed figures including Sunil Gavaskar himself, Dr. C Sreenivas, Chairman of Shri Sathya Sai Health and Education Trust, and Nakul Kamani, President of the NHES Managing Committee.

Government officials also seized the opportunity to discuss civic responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of voting and the electoral process.

A lively questionnaire session followed, allowing students from various schools to interact directly with the cricketing legend.

As a token of appreciation, autograph bats signed by Gavaskar were presented to enthusiastic participants.

Principal Paramita Roy Chaudhury delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event. Eminent personalities, school principals, teachers, and students from approximately 19 schools across Jamshedpur attended, highlighting the profound impact of Gavaskar’s visit on the local community.

Through anecdotes from his own journey, Gavaskar inspired the youth of Jamshedpur to embrace education as a key to success, both on and off the field, making “Sunny Evening” a truly memorable and enriching experience for all involved.

On this occasion, former cricketer, entrepreneur, and author Himadri Sarkar presented his acclaimed book, “Calypso and Cricket,” to the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
