Ranchi, Sept 24: Starting from the academic year 2026, students in Jharkhand will study the life and legacy of Dishom Guru Shibu Soren as part of their school curriculum. The state government has approved the inclusion of multiple chapters based on the veteran tribal leader’s biography in textbooks from Class 2 to Class 11.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has formally approved the proposal submitted by the Department of School Education and Literacy. The educational content and draft syllabus have also received government clearance. A comprehensive curriculum featuring stories and historical context related to Shibu Soren’s life has already been prepared.
According to the finalized structure, a total of 10 chapters dedicated to the life of Shibu Soren will be distributed across various grades. Class 8 will have the most content, with three chapters. Class 6 will include two chapters, while Classes 2, 4, 7, 9, and 11 will each have one chapter focusing on different aspects of Soren’s journey and contributions.
The content will be integrated into subjects such as Hindi, Environmental Science, Social Studies, and Political Science. To implement the new syllabus, the department has initiated the process for textbook printing, with tenders expected to be floated next month.
A seven-member expert committee was formed by the education department to finalize the curriculum structure. Their recommendations led to the decision to include the life of Shibu Soren, who is widely regarded as a key figure in Jharkhand’s tribal and political history.
