Gunfire in Golmuri Targets Local Businessman Over Extortion Demand

 Jamshedpur: In a brazen defiance of law and order, late-night gunfire erupted in the bustling Golmuri area, targeting prominent local businessman Raj Kumar Shah. The terrifying incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local trading community, is reportedly linked to a high-stakes extortion demand.

According to reports, unidentified miscreants opened fire near the businessman’s location to orchestrate an atmosphere of terror. Preliminary investigations indicate that Raj Kumar Shah had recently been threatened by criminal elements demanding a hefty extortion sum (rangdari). The gunfire is believed to be a violent warning shot intended to intimidate the businessman into fulfilling their monetary demands.

The sudden sound of gunshots triggered immediate panic in the neighborhood, causing residents to scramble for safety and local shopkeepers to quickly pull down their shutters. Fortunately, no casualties or immediate injuries were reported from the scene, as the perpetrators quickly fled the spot under the cover of darkness before locals or patrolling units could intercept them.

Upon receiving information about the shooting, a team from the local police station rushed to the spot. Senior police officials, alongside forensic experts, inspected the crime scene, collecting empty cartridge casings and reviewing available CCTV footage from nearby commercial establishments to identify the attackers and their getaway vehicles.

“We have taken this matter very seriously. Such open threats and acts of violence targeting the business community will not be tolerated. Special teams have been formed, and raids are being conducted across suspected hideouts to nab the culprits behind this extortion racket,” a senior police official stated.

The incident has sparked immense anxiety and outrage among local traders and business associations in Jamshedpur. Representatives of the local merchant unions have strongly condemned the attack, demanding immediate police protection for Raj Kumar Shah and his family, as well as intensified night patrolling to curb the rising menace of gang-led extortion in the steel city.

An FIR has been registered against unknown individuals under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Further police investigation is currently underway.
