Jamshedpur, Nov 13: Excitement is building in Jamshedpur as preparations take shape for the grand Nagar Kirtan on November 15, commemorating the Prakash Parv of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru of the Sikhs.

The festive procession will kick off from Sonari Gurudwara Sahib, with the Palki Sahib being beautifully adorned with marigold and rose flowers, specially sourced from Kolkata. Electrical decorations are being set up across all Gurudwaras in the Kolhan region, with a special emphasis on Sonari Gurudwara, the starting point of the procession. The event will conclude at Sakchi Gurudwara, where additional electrifying arrangements are in place. A total of 34 Gurudwaras throughout Kolhan are set to be decorated for the occasion, in accordance with the directives from the Central Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (CGPC).

In a unique communal effort, women will sweep the main roads and areas in front of the Gurudwaras during the Nagar Kirtan, promoting a message of cleanliness. Following their initiative, men will sprinkle water along the procession’s route, adding to the festive spirit, while flower showers will welcome participants at various points along the way.

The Nagar Kirtan is scheduled to commence at 11:30 am from Sonari Gurudwara, following a designated route that includes notable points such as Sonari Bazaar, Aerodrome, Circuit House Roundabout, Keenan Stadium, and culminating at Sakchi Gurudwara by 5 pm.

This year, there will be no fireworks, a departure from past celebrations. Instead, the Palki Sahib will receive a warm welcome at Sakchi Gurudwara with a floral shower, and 42 welcome gates will line the route to enhance the festive ambiance. Traffic management for the Nagar Kirtan has been entrusted to the Central Singh Naujawan Sabha.

The procession promises a rich display of cultural diversity with participants including horsemen, Gatka parties, local schools, and various community groups such as the CGPC, Jagriti Manch, Women’s Satsang Sabha, Kirtani groups, and 13 dedicated cleaning teams.
