Night-Time Girder Installation Accelerates Construction Work
Jamshedpur: The long-awaited bridge-cum-flyover project over the Swarnarekha River, aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in Mango and adjoining areas, is now progressing rapidly. The massive infrastructure project is gradually taking shape, with the flyover structure from Dimna Road towards Gandhi Ghat becoming clearly visible.
According to representatives of the construction agency, the ambitious project is expected to be completed by August 2026, offering major relief to thousands of commuters who face daily traffic bottlenecks in Mango and surrounding localities.
Flyover Structure Emerging Across Swarnarekha
The flyover stretches from near Blue Bells School on Dimna Road to the opposite bank of the Swarnarekha River. Construction work over the river has gained significant momentum in recent weeks.
Dinesh R. Agarwal, representing the construction agency, stated that operations on the Dimna Road-to-Gandhi Ghat stretch are expected to commence by August. The work of installing girders for the section extending toward New Purulia Road also began on Wednesday.
Girder Installation Restricted to Night Hours
Due to the narrow width of the road and to minimize disruption to daily traffic movement, girder installation work is being carried out exclusively during night hours.
Officials informed that only one girder can be erected in a single night, making the process time-consuming. The entire girder installation work alone is expected to take nearly two months to complete.
Heavy machinery and technical teams are being deployed during the night to ensure the safe placement of the massive girders without affecting daytime vehicular movement.
Forest Clearance and Power Tower Pose Challenges
Despite rapid progress, several hurdles continue to affect the project timeline. Permission from the Forest Department for certain sections near New Purulia Road is still pending, though the required formalities are currently underway.
Another major obstacle is the presence of a high-tension electricity tower located near the Workers’ Flats opposite the Hathi-Ghoda Temple. The construction agency stated that coordination with the concerned government departments is ongoing to facilitate the relocation of the tower.
57 Pillars to Support Massive Structure
Officials confirmed that pillar construction work over the Swarnarekha River has already been completed successfully. Construction activity is now continuing round-the-clock near the Workers’ Flats area.
The entire flyover will stand on 57 pillars and is being developed at an estimated cost of around ₹252 crore. The Dimna Road side will feature a four-lane flyover, while the New Purulia Road side will consist of a two-lane elevated corridor.
Residents Hopeful of Permanent Traffic Relief
The project is being viewed as one of the most significant infrastructure developments for Jamshedpur in recent years. Residents of Mango, who have struggled with severe traffic congestion for decades, are hopeful that the flyover will drastically reduce travel time and improve connectivity across the city once operational.
Daily commuters and transport operators believe the project will not only streamline traffic flow but also boost economic and commercial activity in the region.
