Chakradharpur: A high-speed collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle claimed the lives of three youths on the NH-320D Chakradharpur–Manoharpur main road on Friday evening.
The Incident
The accident occurred around 5:00 PM near a local school. Krishna Nayak, a resident of Chelabeda village, was riding toward Sonua on a motorcycle (JH 06 U 8103) with his two friends, Ganesh Nayak and Shyamlal, both residents of Toyra. Simultaneously, a bus named Sai Rath (JH 22 F 4775), traveling from Manoharpur to Jamshedpur, struck the motorcycle at high speed from the opposite direction.
The impact killed Krishna Nayak and one friend instantly. Local residents rushed the third youth, who was in critical condition, to the Chakradharpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police and Family Response
Chakradharpur police arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to recover the bodies and seize both vehicles. While the post-mortem was delayed due to the late hour, the bodies remain at the Railway Hospital and Sub-Divisional Hospital mortuaries awaiting autopsy.
Krishna’s father, Mono Nayak, shared that his son had only just returned home that day from his workplace in Adityapur-Gamharia. Krishna was reportedly on his way to drop his friends off at a village fair in Toyra when the tragedy struck.
Rising Safety Concerns
The incident has sparked outrage among residents regarding the lack of traffic enforcement. Locals identified several stretches—including Sonua Road, Toklo Road, and Kusumkunj Mor—as accident-prone spots. Community members are now calling for immediate road safety interventions and stricter regulation of speeding commercial vehicles to prevent further loss of life.
