Jamshedpur, June 9: As the summer vacation period comes to a close in Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, all government schools reopened on Friday, subjecting students to scorching temperatures. East Singhbhum district experienced exceptionally hot weather, with Dumka district following closely behind as the hottest locations in the state.

On Friday, the district recorded a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius, and the weather forecast predicts a further increase in temperature over the next five days. The Meteorological Department reported heat wave-like conditions prevailing in East Singhbhum. As a result, school children have been significantly affected by the intense heat and heat wave.

Kunal Sarangi, the BJP Jharkhand state spokesperson and former MLA, has demanded that the state government extend the summer vacations for both private and government schools due to the challenges children are facing in the scorching heat. In a statement released on Friday, Sarangi expressed concern about the adverse impact on children’s health and studies, as they are forced to travel home under the scorching afternoon sun. Some children are even compelled to walk barefoot on the scalding roads, worsening their condition. Sarangi criticized departmental and administrative officials for their apparent indifference and insensitivity in implementing such rules while sitting in air-conditioned offices. He suggested that these officials experience the conditions themselves by walking a kilometer under the scorching sun before making guidelines for school children. Stressing the increasing risk of dehydration and heatstroke among students, Sarangi demanded that the state government extend the summer vacation until the arrival of the monsoon or facilitate online classes.
