Jamshedpur, April 17: Jharkhand is witnessing a steady rise in temperatures, with several districts recording above-normal heat levels, even as isolated thunderstorm activity is expected to bring brief relief in parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Daltonganj emerged as the hottest location on Friday, recording a maximum temperature of 42.1°C, significantly above normal.
The state largely remained dry, with negligible rainfall reported across most regions. Ramgarh was the only station to receive measurable precipitation, recording 4 mm of rainfall.
In major urban centres, Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1°C and a minimum of 23.7°C, both above normal levels, while Jamshedpur registered a maximum of 36.4°C.
Bokaro also experienced warm conditions with the mercury touching 38.2°C.
The IMD has forecast that on April 17, parts of eastern and adjoining central Jharkhand may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.
However, no significant weather activity is expected on April 18.
From April 19 onwards, the weather is likely to turn more severe, with heatwave conditions predicted at isolated places, particularly over north-western, southern and south-eastern parts of the state.
This trend is expected to persist for the next few days, raising concerns over rising heat stress.
Looking ahead, the extended forecast for the period between April 22 and April 28 indicates below-normal rainfall activity across Jharkhand.
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain above normal, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay near normal levels, suggesting continued warm nights.
With the mercury climbing and heatwave conditions on the horizon, residents have been advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated and avoiding direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours.
