Kochi, April 17: Jamshedpur FC head into a crucial phase of their campaign with an important away fixture against Kerala Blasters FC, knowing that a win could significantly tighten the title race.

The Men of Steel currently sit on 15 points, three behind league leaders Mumbai City FC (18 points), while Mohun Bagan Super Giant occupy second place with 17 points. With the table finely poised, a positive result in Kochi could help Jamshedpur FC bridge the gap and keep themselves firmly in contention.

However, the challenge will be far from straightforward. Kerala Blasters, despite being second from bottom, have shown signs of revival under new head coach Ashley Westwood. A win against Bengaluru FC followed by a hard-fought draw against NorthEast United has injected fresh momentum into the side, making them a dangerous opponent on home soil.

Jamshedpur FC will also have to manage the absence of head coach Owen Coyle from the touchline, as he serves a suspension following his second yellow card. In his absence, assistant coach Sandy Stewart will take charge on the sidelines.

Stewart emphasised the importance of the fixture and the team’s approach heading into the game. “Our mindset is to go out and win every single game. We know it will be hard, especially away from home, but that’s our target. Kerala have improved recently, so we have to be at our best and make sure we take our chances,” he said.

Defender Nikhil Barla echoed the team’s focus on execution in key moments. “We are creating chances and getting into good positions, but we need to improve our finishing. If we can score early and take our opportunities, it will make a big difference for us,” he said.
