AIFF Elite League: Last-Gasp Mama penalty earns Jamshedpur FC U-18 draw against Classic FA

Mahilpur/Jamshedpur, April 17: A dramatic stoppage-time penalty from Lawmsangzuala (Mama) helped Jamshedpur FC U-18 salvage a 2–2 draw against Classic Football Academy in their opening match of the AIFF Elite League final round in Mahilpur, Punjab.

The contest lived up to expectations as an end-to-end encounter, with Jamshedpur starting brightly and dominating the early exchanges. Their intent paid off in the 11th minute when Mama produced a sublime finish to give JFC the lead. The Young Men of Steel maintained control for much of the first half and went into the break ahead, though they had chances to extend the lead. Rashithoi, Mars and Rayan all came close, with one effort striking the post as Jamshedpur pressed for a second.

The momentum shifted after the restart as Classic Football Academy struck twice in the second half to turn the game on its head and put Jamshedpur under pressure. Despite the setback, JFC continued to create opportunities, with Gopal Munda going agonisingly close on two occasions, both efforts hitting the post in quick succession.

With the match heading towards a narrow defeat, Jamshedpur found a lifeline deep into injury time when a handball inside the box resulted in a penalty. Mama stepped up and showed great composure to convert from the spot, securing a crucial point for his side in the opening fixture.

Jamshedpur FC U-18 will now turn their attention to their next match against Gokulam Kerala FC, scheduled for April 19 at 7:30 AM, as they continue their campaign in the final round.
