Jamshedpur: With majority of the buyers visiting the markets after breaking their fast in the evening, the fervour of Eid shopping is at its peak in Jamshedpur.
The shopping has received momentum in city as rush of buyers are being witnessed in almost all markets and shopping arcades in the city continued after Iftari till late night.
The people along with family comes out for shopping soon after breaking fast and are seen busy by buying shoes, suits, ready-made garments and other items for Eid.
Most of the shopping markets in Sakchi, Jugsalai, Bistupur and Mango have artistically been decorated and illuminated with colorful lights and buntings to attract buyers especially during night.
Bulk of the shopping centers and fashionable markets have been flooded with domestic and foreign goods as shopkeepers have displayed varieties of ready-made garments, cloths, suits, shoes, cosmetics, eye-catching jewelry and quality three-piece-suits for youth that were rarely seen in the past in the lucrative markets of the city .
�The fervour of Eid shopping is at its peak in our city as majority of the buyers come out for shopping on �chandraat� or Eid eve,� said a salesman of a popular garment centre in Sakchi, Mohammed Rashid.
The customers, however, are not happy with the shooting prices of items like sarees, Bezoo woolens and wallets etc. They are available in the market for an average price of 2,000, Rs 1,800 and Rs 900 respectively, whereas last year, these same items were at least a couple of hundred rupees cheaper. Thus, shopping for Indian clothes and accessories is proving to be quite heavy on the pocket for the middle and salaried class.
Sample this: A short kameez, which was priced at Rs 750 last year, is available for nothing less than Rs 1,000 this year. Similarly, prices of readymade garments for kids, especially girls, are leaving the middle-income group high and dry.
Speaking of dry, since it is Eid, how can we forget the quintessential henna or mehndi? Eid is one festival where mehndi application is a must, as is wearing choodis or bangles. Young girls and women can be seen scurrying from shop to shop, looking for matching bangles and mehndi cones.
�The shopping of bangles and henna is always on top of my priority list, as it adds that finishing touch to the Eid celebration. There is something beautiful about wearing traditional attire on Eid, complete with bangles and mehndi on the hands,� said a shopper, MalaikaTarranum, while busy scouring for bangles in Chowk Bazaar market.
