Jamshedpur, Feb 13: The scorching summer months are a challenge to the entire forest department to protect plants, trees and newly planted saplings from dehydration and subsequent drying up. In fact, dried up trees and plants are a major reason for forest fires that occur during the summer months. In order to protect the flora and fauna from the critical phenomenon of scorching summer, forest officials and workers led by DFO Abhirup Sinha, have pulled up their socks and set about ensuring that the millions of new saplings planted across the Saranda forest range are protected from the vagaries of summer.
It may be mentioned that during the last monsoon season, the DFO led the forest department team in planting millions of new saplings in vacant land within various ranges of the Saranda forest. The primary objective behind planting these saplings was to rejuvenate the dense forest area with the assistance of rural communities. Trees of various species have been planted wherever there was barren land in Saranda.
In the coming days, as the heat intensifies, preserving these saplings will pose a significant challenge for the Forest Department. Keeping this in mind, the department has already begun preparations at a war footing. As per the directives of DFO Abhirup Sinha, dozens of rickshaw-like water tankers have been dispatched to different ranges of Saranda. These tankers were being sent to the specific areas where saplings have been planted. Efforts will be made to provide adequate water to these saplings throughout the summer months. This initiative marks the first of its kind in Saranda.
This endeavor not only aims to save the saplings but also has the potential to provide employment to numerous unemployed individuals in Saranda.
