East Singhbhum dominates 22nd Jharkhand Senior State Ball Badminton Championship

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum district emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 22nd Jharkhand Senior State Ball Badminton Championship. The tournament, held at the Telco Nepal Building in Jamshedpur, spanned multiple Sundays, starting on December 15, 2024, and culminating in the finals on January 12, 2025.

In the men’s category, East Singhbhum showcased a strong performance. While Seraikela-Kharsawan narrowly won the first match 35-33, East Singhbhum fought back, winning the second match 35-30 and sealing the final match with a decisive 35-28 victory.

In the women’s category, East Singhbhum defeated West Singhbhum in a closely contested match, clinching the second set 39-37 after winning the first 35-33.

The tournament featured eight district teams and was organized by K. Rama Krishna Rao. The event began with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Chief Guest and Tata Motors Union General President Gurmeet Singh Tote, alongside General Secretary RK Singh and Principal of Guru Govind Singh High School, Pushpa Pandey. The guests were honored with mementos by Jharkhand State Ball Badminton General Secretary Majji Ravi Kumar and Vice President K. Ram Mohan Rao.

Trophies were sponsored by K. Ram Mohan Rao, K. Basu Rao, and K. Rajasekhar Rao (Babloo), while the organizing team included notable figures such as former Vice President K. Ram Mohan Rao, former national player Shiva Rao, and international sports promoter Birendra Kumar Mishra.

Jharkhand State Ball Badminton General Secretary Majji Ravi Kumar announced that the men’s team for the 70th Senior National Ball Badminton Championship, scheduled from February 6 to February 9 in Ballari, Karnataka, will be selected from this tournament. The selected players will represent Jharkhand at the national level.

The championship highlighted the growing talent and enthusiasm for ball badminton in Jharkhand, with East Singhbhum setting a benchmark for excellence in the sport.
