Jamshedpur: The Transport Department launched a vehicle inspection drive in the rural areas of East Singhbhum district, sending a strong message against traffic violations and reckless driving. During the drive, conducted at the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Karan Satyarthi, fines amounting to Rs 1.10 lakh were collected from the drivers of 55 vehicles found to be violating traffic rules.
The special inspection drive was conducted near the Galudih toll plaza and was led by District Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Suraj Hembram. The initiative was aimed at strengthening road safety measures, particularly in rural areas where the number of road accidents has been rising at an alarming rate. More than 143 vehicles were thoroughly inspected during the operation.
Officials focused on critical safety parameters, including mandatory helmet use by two-wheeler riders, seat belt compliance by car drivers, overloading on motorcycles and buses, and the use of illegal black film on vehicle windows. Several drivers were penalized on the spot for flouting safety norms and endangering their own lives as well as those of others.
Speaking on the occasion, MVI Suraj Hembram said that such inspection drives will continue across rural pockets of the district. He underlined that negligence, such as riding without helmets and overloading vehicles, is a major cause of fatal accidents in rural areas. “Strict action is being taken to curb these violations and reduce road accidents. Wearing a helmet is not just a rule; it is a lifesaving necessity,” he said.
Appealing to the public, Hembram urged two-wheeler riders to wear helmets from the moment they step out of their homes and follow traffic rules diligently. He emphasized that adherence to safety norms can significantly prevent loss of life and property. The Transport Department reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws rigorously and ensuring safer roads for all.
