DBMS College Jamshedpur sets trend with Saree Walkathon for women’s rights

Jamshedpur, Dec 13: DBMS College Sports Cell organised a unique Saree Walkathon on Wednesday to promote women’s empowerment, cultural heritage, safety, dignity and equality. Women participants took part in the event wearing sarees, making the walkathon a powerful blend of tradition and social awareness. The initiative is being described as possibly the first event of its kind in Jamshedpur.

The walkathon was flagged off by noted mountaineer Asmita Dorjee, marking a symbolic start to the awareness drive. The route began from Kadma Post Office, passed through Link Road and concluded at the Post Office, drawing attention from local residents along the way. Women from the DBMS community and various DBMS units participated in large numbers, while B.Ed. students also showed enthusiastic involvement.

A total of 101 women and 121 students took part in the event. In the women’s category, Shanti Raju secured first position, followed by Mamta in second place and Pansuri Hansda in third. Among male students, Ayush Parashar won first prize, Raja Dongre stood second and Parimal Paul finished third. In the female students’ category, Pramila Kumari secured first place, Shraddha Topno second and Rupa Kumari third. Snacks for participants were sponsored by N. Dilip Kumar.

The programme was successfully conducted under the supervision of Meenakshi Chaudhary, Moderator of the Sports Cell, and Anjali Ganeshan. Several senior citizens were present at the event. Patron of DBMS Trust Bhanumathi Neelakanthan graced the occasion, while President B. Chandrasekhar and Lalitha Chandrasekhar encouraged the participants. College Secretary Sripriya Dharmarajan, Joint Secretary Sudha Dilip, Treasurer S. Dharmarajan, Administrative Secretary Satish Singh, Principal Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Vice-Principal Dr. Monika Uppal, along with faculty and staff, contributed to the success of the event.
