Crackdown on cars with tinted glasses, DC himself leads the drive

Jamshedpur : The spurt in cases of crimes against women has prompted Jamshedpur administration to step up security measures. The deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal himself carried the drive along with police officials cracking down on vehicles with tinted glasses with dark films and penalizing owners.

On the first day of the special drive the crackdowns were carried out at Sakchi and Jubilee Park gate. Sources said that several four wheelers were fined and had their tinted films stripped off from their windows.

“We have been asked to increase vigil in the city and ensure safety for the women. The drive, which would continue till further order from the district administration, is based on the Supreme Court order prohibiting use of tinted films in vehicles,” said an official.

Deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Rakesh Mohan Sinha said that in addition to the special drive against use of tinted films on windows the routine drive against traffic violations by two wheelers would also continue simultaneously.

He said that many people in the city use tinted glasses in their vehicles and SUVs without dark glasses are rare here. In many cases, owner of a vehicle uses flag of a certain political party to avoid the cops. The decor shops, on the other hand, made most of the opportunity to earn some quick bucks.

A fine of Rs 270 was levied on two wheelers violating traffic norms like riding without helmets.

“We are issuing challan against each vehicle owner for violating the norms. If they fail to comply with rules, we will increase the fine amount,” he noted. Instructions were also given to the police personnel to remove the tinted film,” he explained.
