President Droupadi Murmu expressed grief over the tragic loss of seven lives in a severe road accident in Jharkhand’s Khunti district.
She extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
She also prayed for the swift recovery of those injured in the accident.
The tragic incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday in Karra village near the Jone-Ludru turn on the Karra-Torpa main road.
A scooter rider initially met with an accident at the location.
Local residents quickly gathered along the roadside to help the injured rider.
A speeding 18-wheeler trailer truck coming from the Torpa side ran over the helpful bystanders gathered at the spot.
Six individuals died instantly at the scene of the crash.
A 12-year-old boy later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Khunti Sadar Hospital.
The collision also injured a young girl.
Anger erupted among local villagers on Friday morning following the devastating collision.
Enraged residents blocked the main road near the Karra railway crossing by burning tyres.
The demonstration brought vehicular movement in the area to a complete halt.
Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the trailer truck driver responsible for the fatalities.
They requested government jobs for the families of the deceased victims.
They also sought adequate financial compensation for the affected kin.
Protesters highlighted poor visibility and hazardous road conditions at the sharp turn.
They alleged that heavy vehicles frequently speed through the accident-prone stretch despite high safety risks.
Villagers demanded stronger road safety measures to prevent future tragic incidents in the region.
Police and administrative officials promptly reached the spot to hold talks with the demonstrators.
Authorities assured the protesters that the government would provide full assistance and compensation to affected families.
Officials deployed additional police personnel in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain order.
