The Jharkhand High Court on Friday set aside the state government’s order cancelling the Combined Graduate Level recruitment examination and its subsequent appointments.
Justice Deepak Roshan delivered the verdict while hearing petitions filed by selected candidates. The decision brings major relief to individuals appointed through the recruitment process.
The High Court allowed the Criminal Investigation Department to continue its ongoing probe into alleged examination irregularities.
The state government had cancelled the examination and appointments on August 18 following an investigative report and widespread student protests.
Petitioners argued that authorities should punish only the guilty individuals rather than cancelling the entire selection process. They contended that scrapping all appointments unfairly penalized honest candidates.
State representatives presented a sealed report claiming large-scale systemic failures during the examination process.
However, the court observed that authorities cannot presume all selected candidates guilty without concrete evidence.
The High Court had previously reserved its judgment on October 8 after hearing detailed arguments.
The bench had also maintained an interim stay on the cancellation order, keeping selected employees in service.
Earlier in September, the court appointed retired judge Gautam Kumar Choudhary to monitor the probe. Retired officer R.K. Mallik was named nodal officer to assist in the investigation.
The court previously directed investigating agencies not to harass fairly selected candidates. The detailed written order will be released soon.
