COVID scare in Jamshedpur: 149 new infections shoot up active cases to 924

Jamshedpur, April 7: As many as 149 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Jamshedpur, as per the latest figures released by the health department of East Singhbhum on Wednesday. This was the second highest single-day spike of coronavirus infections in the Steel City this year. Earlier on April 6, 191 COVID cases were reported in Jamshedpur.

Total samples tested were 2329 in the last 24 hours. There are 924 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur. The infection tally in the Steel City has gone up to 19704 and a total of 379 fatalities due to the disease have been recorded so far. As many 18401 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 40 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. Over 2000 COVID-19 tests, including around 1136 RT-PCR, were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city.

The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.

Of the 2329 samples tested in Jamshedpur on Wednesday 149 positives were reported.

The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

The surge has led to an increase in hospitalisation.

Of the 149 new cases, 146 are from Jamshedpur urban area, two from Baharagora and one from Patamda.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 239014 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur has dropped down to 94.10% while the mortality rate is 1.92 %.

So far in Jamshedpur 654375 samples have been collected out of which 636254 have been tested and 616550 have turned out to be negative.
