Jamshedpur, August 12: The Additional District Judge-2 (ADJ-2) Aabhas Verma has issued a show-cause notice to the Azadnagar police station in-charge, highlighting a growing tension between the judiciary and law enforcement in a long-standing Arms Act case. The notice comes after repeated failures by the police to present key witnesses in court, despite multiple directives from the bench.
The case in question dates back to October 13, 2017, when then-Azadnagar police station in-charge Anjani Kumar Tiwari, acting on secret information, conducted a raid on the residence of Mohammad Razzaq in Road No. 6, House No. 17. The operation resulted in the recovery of an allegedly illegal country-made pistol, leading to the filing of an FIR against Razzaq. While the testimony of several witnesses has been recorded, the case remains incomplete without the crucial statements of the seizure list witness and the surgeon major.
The court’s frustration stems from a High Court mandate that places the responsibility of witness presentation squarely on the shoulders of the respective police station in-charge. Despite this clear directive and repeated court orders, the Azadnagar police chief has failed to produce these key witnesses, effectively stalling the case’s progress. The show-cause notice now demands an explanation for this non-compliance, underscoring the court’s serious view of the matter.
