Corona carnage in Jamshedpur: 370 infections, 2 deaths make grim situation darker

Active cases rise to 1814 in Jamshedpur, tally up at 21199

Jamshedpur, April 12: Jamshedpur recorded 370 COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest single-day surge in the Steel City till date, while 2 more people died due to the disease, according to COVID-19 bulletin shared by East Singhbhum district health department.

For third consecutive day the positive cases crossed 300 mark in city. Earlier on April 11, city reported 362 infections and on April 10, 303 infections were recorded.   

The positivity rate rose to 3.20 per cent in Jamshedpur.

The cumulative coronavirus case count stands at 21199 and the death count is now 392, according to the latest health bulletin.

The new cases came out of the 9853 tests conducted on Monday.

The best efforts of the state government and district administration will not pay dividends until and unless people themselves realize that the second wave is already knocking down human wickets and it is high time to take a defensive stance to avoid further blows.

Of the 370 new cases, 361 are from Jamshedpur urban area including 44 each from Mango and Kadma, 41 from Sidhgora, 30 each from Sakchi and Telco, 25 from Bistupur, 26 from Sonari, 10 from Begbera, 8 from Golmuri, 5 from Jugsalai along with 3 from Chakulia, 2 from Ghatsila,  and one eacvh from Dalbhumgarh, Musabani, Patamda and Potka.

There are 1814 active COVID-19 cases in Jamshedpur. The infection tally in the Steel City has gone up to 21199 and a total of 392 fatalities due to the disease have been recorded so far.

As many 18993 people have recovered from COVID-19 so far with 132 recoveries recorded in the last 24-hours. Over 9000 COVID-19 tests, including 1444 RT-PCR, 8102 RAT were conducted in the last 24 hours in the city. The hotspot areas of the Steel City Mango, Kadma, Sonari, Bistupur and Sakchi continue to witness a virulent spread of COVID.

The district administration said it would go for aggressive containment and stricter enforcement of health protocols such as wearing masks and keeping social distance.

The surge has led to an increase in hospitalisation.

East Singhbhum district administration has conducted 249116 test per million in the district. The recovery rate in Jamshedpur has dropped down to 91.19% while the mortality rate is 1.85 %.

So far in Jamshedpur 683292 samples have been collected out of which 663148 have been tested and 641949 have turned out to be negative.
