Cold wave grips Jamshedpur, temperature drops to 9.2°C

Jamshedpur, December 15:The Steel City of Jamshedpur is reeling under an intense cold wave as the mercury plunged to 9.2°C, marking one of the coldest December nights in recent years. The biting cold has disrupted daily life, with residents bundling up in multiple layers to combat the chill.
Meteorological experts attribute the drop in temperature to cold winds sweeping in from northern India, coupled with clear skies, which have intensified the drop in nighttime temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the cold wave conditions may persist for the next few days, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The cold spell has particularly impacted early-morning workers, school children, and daily wage laborers. “The mornings are freezing, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to commute,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Mango.
Meanwhile, the local administration has issued advisories for schools to consider delaying morning timings to ensure the safety of students. Several shelters have been set up across the city for the homeless, and bonfires have been arranged in key areas to provide some relief from the icy conditions.
As the city’s iconic Jubilee Park and other open spaces wear a frosty look, weather enthusiasts are capturing the winter beauty while eagerly awaiting updates on whether the temperature will dip further in the coming days.
Stay tuned for weather updates and precautions as Jamshedpur continues to brave the cold wave.
