Children learn self-defense techniques at Tata Steel Summer Camp

Jamshedpur: As part of the annual summer camp organized by the Tata Steel Sports Department, local children are being trained in karate and essential self-defense techniques at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. The training is being spearheaded by international coach L. Nageshwar Rao, who is imparting crucial self-defense skills to the young participants.

The martial arts camp has seen an enthusiastic response, with approximately 150 children actively participating in the daily training sessions to learn discipline, focus, and personal safety tactics.

The Tata Steel Summer Camp 2026 has reached a significant milestone, with registrations officially crossing the 2,500 mark within the first few weeks. As the camp gains momentum, Tata Steel is pleased to announce a series of new, enriching activities designed to foster creativity, safety awareness, and family engagement.

In a bid to integrate environmental consciousness with artistic expression, a Painting Competition will be organised in collaboration with the Tata Steel Environment Department and Fevicreate by Pidilite Makers of Fevicol. This initiative aims to encourage young minds to visualise a greener future through various artistic mediums.

Furthermore, the camp will place a strong emphasis on the Company’s core value of safety. A specialised programme titled safety will be introduced, featuring interactive sessions and Nukkad Nataks (street plays). These performances are designed to educate children on safety protocols at home, on the road, and at school in an engaging and memorable format.

Recognising that the Summer Camp is a family experience, Tata Steel has introduced dedicated fun events for waiting parents. While children participate in their respective modules, parents can now engage in curated wellness sessions, hobby workshops, and interactive forums, ensuring their time at the venue is equally productive and enjoyable. And at the end of the camp, parents and children can enjoy delicious snacks and refreshments near Swimming pool, thanks to our partners Fruit and Gru.

Speaking on the progress of the camp, Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports, Tata Steel said “We are thrilled to see such an enthusiastic response from the community. Crossing 2,500 registrations is a testament to the trust parents place in our programmes. By adding elements like the painting competition and learning sessions, we are ensuring that Summer Camp 2026 is not just about sports and fun, but also about holistic learning and safety.”
