Chaibasa, July 14: West Singhbhum police here on Thursday arrested PLFI area commander Novel Sandi Purty, wanted in several major extremist activities. Police had announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh to ensure his arrest.
West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar, addressing a press conference at his office, said the PLFI leader was arrested on the basis of a tip-off.
“We had inputs that Purty and his other squad members had been spotted in the dense forests and hills around Larauli village in Bandgaon police station area. A team was set up to verify the information. Soon, few suspicious people were seen near the forest during a search operation. While others fled the scene, one of them was arrested. He turned out to be the PLFI area commander,” said the SP.
The SP said there are 30 cases registered against Purty. He said police had seized an AK-47 rifle, 38 live cartridges, a grenade and other items from the possession of the PLFI leader.
