Jamshedpur, June 28: In a surprising turn of events, the Special MP-MLA Court at Chaibasa dismissed the defamation case filed by Minister Banna Gupta against MLA Saryu Roy. The complaint, filed through Minister Gupta’s advocate Prakash Jha on May 10, 2023, accused MLA Saryu Roy of spreading false information and baseless allegations on social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook) as well as local newspapers. The allegations claimed that Minister Banna Gupta was in possession and using a prohibited weapon, specifically a G44 Glock pistol.
Following the filing of the legal complaint, a notice was sent to MLA Saryu Roy on May 3, 2023, by Minister Gupta’s advocate, Prakash Jha. However, MLA Saryu Roy did not respond to the notice and disregarded its contents.
Upon examination of the complainant’s statement and the submitted documents, Judicial Magistrate Rishi Kumar of the Special Court of People’s Representatives deemed Minister Banna Gupta’s complaint as non-maintainable. The court found that there was insufficient evidence available to proceed with the case against MLA Saryu Roy based on the facts and circumstances presented by the complainant himself. As a result, complaint no. 182/2023 was rejected. Advocates Aninda Mishra, Sourav Sinha, Prateek Sharma, and Mahadev Sharma represented MLA Saryu Rai in the court proceedings, ensuring a strong defense against the defamation allegations brought by Minister Banna Gupta. The dismissal of the case has left Minister Gupta astonished by the outcome.
