Over 100 Drunk Drivers Caught in Jamshedpur as Police Launch Citywide Anti-Crime Crackdown  

Night-long Operation Follows New SSP’s Directive, ‘Chopper Seizure’ Drive Launched To Curb Weapon-Related Crime

Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum police launched a massive anti-crime checking drive across Jamshedpur on Saturday night, intensifying action against drunken driving, suspicious movement and the illegal carrying of sharp-edged weapons following the appointment of the district’s new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dr Ehtesham Waquarib.

Acting on the SSP’s directions, police teams simultaneously conducted surprise checking operations in multiple police station areas, setting up barricades at major roads and intersections. The night-long operation was aimed at strengthening law and order and creating a safer environment for residents.

More than 100 motorists booked for drunken driving

To improve road safety, police carried out extensive vehicle inspections and used breath analysers to check motorists for alcohol consumption.

According to City SP Lalit Meena, more than 100 four-wheeler drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol during the operation. Action was initiated against the violators in accordance with traffic regulations.

Police also removed black window films from vehicles found violating Supreme Court guidelines and imposed spot fines on offenders.

Surprise checks at bars, restaurants

Besides roadside inspections, police teams conducted surprise checks at several bars and restaurants across the city as part of the intensified anti-crime campaign.

Officials verified compliance with operational norms and monitored activities inside the establishments following recent incidents that have raised concerns over law and order.

Two dozen detained for verification

Police also cracked down on suspicious movement during the night. More than 24 persons found loitering at roadsides and major intersections under suspicious circumstances were detained and taken to police stations for verification.

Officials said the criminal backgrounds of the detained persons are being examined, and further legal action will be taken wherever necessary.

‘Chopper seizure’ drive launched

In a fresh initiative to prevent violent crimes, the police have launched a special “chopper seizure” drive targeting the illegal possession and movement of sharp-edged weapons frequently used in assaults.

City SP Lalit Meena said the campaign would focus on recovering such weapons and preventing their misuse by anti-social elements.

Night checks to continue

Police officials said the anti-crime checking drive will now be conducted on a regular basis across Jamshedpur. The objective is to strengthen policing, improve road safety, deter criminal activities and reassure citizens through a visible police presence during late-night hours.
