Jamshedpur, Dec 26: Winter conditions intensified across Jharkhand as Gumla shivered at a minimum temperature of 2.8°C, the lowest in the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi.
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in Jamshedpur were 24 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius, respectively.
The reading confirms the spread of cold wave conditions over parts of the plateau region.
Several districts witnessed night temperatures significantly below normal. Ranchi recorded 7°C, Bokaro Thermal 7.5°C, and Daltonganj 5.6°C, while daytime temperatures also remained suppressed, offering little relief from the cold.
The persistent chill has led to sharp departures from normal winter averages in many areas.
Fog added to the wintry conditions, affecting visibility during early morning hours.
Deoghar airport reported reduced visibility of up to 500 metres, with similar conditions observed in pockets of Jamshedpur and nearby regions.
No rainfall was reported anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.
Chaibasa recorded the highest daytime temperature at 26.8°C, reflecting a marked contrast between day and night temperatures across Jharkhand.
The IMD has cautioned that cold conditions may continue in the coming days and has advised people to take necessary precautions, particularly during late night and early morning hours.
