Jamshedpur, April 23: In a major crackdown on intellectual property violations, a joint operation was carried out in Golmuri area on Thursday following directives from the Bombay High Court. Authorities seized counterfeit cosmetics and toothpaste worth lakhs of rupees, allegedly smuggled in from Nepal and sold under reputed brand names.

The action stemmed from a complaint filed by Unilever’s IP arm, which had been receiving consistent reports of fake products circulating in the market. Acting on the complaint, company representative Diptonil Hazara, along with Golmuri police, conducted targeted raids at identified locations.

During the operation, officials recovered a significant quantity of products bearing forged labels of well-known brands such as Closeup and Pepsodent, indicating clear trademark infringement.

Local resident Ashok Kumar has been named as the primary accused in the case. The raid was conducted under Commercial IP Suit No. 36566 of 2025, with prior legal notice from the High Court affixed at the premises, directing compliance and court appearance.
Police confirmed that the seized goods have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.

Experts view this High Court-backed action as a strong signal of intensified enforcement, with companies and authorities tightening the noose around counterfeit networks to protect both brand integrity and consumer safety.
