Jamshedpur, April 27: A severe heatwave continues to grip Jharkhand, with several districts recording temperatures well above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Daltonganj emerged as the hottest place in the state on Monday, recording a scorching 44.8°C, significantly above normal. Steel city Jamshedpur also reeled under intense heat at 41.5°C, while Chaibasa touched 43.4°C. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 39.9°C, about 3.2°C above normal.
Night temperatures offered little relief, remaining elevated across the state. Jamshedpur recorded a minimum of 27.4°C, which is nearly 3°C above normal, indicating persistently warm conditions.
Despite the oppressive heat, rainfall activity remained negligible across most districts. Only Bokaro AWS reported 2.0 mm of rainfall, while the rest of the state largely stayed dry.
“The current temperature trend indicates a sustained heatwave pattern across Jharkhand, with several regions witnessing departures significantly above normal,” an IMD official said.
“Minimal rainfall and clear skies are further intensifying daytime heating, raising concerns of heat-related stress, especially in urban pockets,” the official added.

Jamshedpur: 41.5°C
