Jamshedpur, June 16: On Monday, Gunjan Yadav, MLA representative of Jamshedpur East and former District President of BJP Jamshedpur Mahanagar, met the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum district to lodge a formal objection against the FIR filed in connection with the peaceful protest organized by Jan Suvidha Manch outside Sakchi police station on June 12.
During the meeting, Yadav provided complete details of the incident and demanded a fair investigation, claiming that the FIR was an unjustified act that suppressed democratic rights. Speaking to the media afterward, he strongly criticized the actions of the Sakchi police, alleging high-handedness and misuse of power.
He stated that the June 12 protest was a peaceful gathering of citizens including youth and women carrying the national flag and placards, demonstrating against rising drug abuse, immoral activities, and alleged police negligence in the Sakchi area. However, the police station in-charge allegedly locked the gates, refused to meet the delegation, and declined to accept the memorandum.
Yadav condemned the subsequent FIR, in which the police claimed that the protesters were armed. “Calling the national flag a weapon is an insult to our tricolor,” he remarked, adding sarcastically that the station in-charge may need an eye check-up to distinguish between a flag and a weapon.
He asserted that media reports, electronic news footage, and CCTV recordings from the protest clearly showed that no weapons were carried—only flags and placards. Yadav challenged authorities to identify any arms in the footage, declaring himself ready to accept punishment if proven otherwise.
He urged the SSP to ensure an impartial probe by a competent senior officer so that the truth could come to light and justice was served to the innocent youth and women involved. Yadav added that the SSP had taken the matter seriously and had assured a fair and unbiased investigation.
