Jamshedpur, March 12: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur Branch Office, organised jewellers awareness programme at Shiv Vatika in Koderma district on Wednesday. The event witnessed active participation from around 60 jewellers, both registered and non-registered, who gathered to gain valuable insights into various aspects of jewellery standards and regulations.
The primary focus of the programme was to provide the jewellers with the latest updates on important regulatory aspects. Key discussions included the new registration process for jewellers, documents required for applying online and the latest updates on mandatory hallmarking across districts. As of now, a total of 361 districts in the country are covered under the mandatory hallmarking scheme.
In addition, the jewellers were educated about various Indian Standards (IS), including updates on IS 1417, IS 2112, IS 1418, IS 2113, and IS 15820, which are essential for maintaining quality and standardization in the jewellery sector.
The BIS team highlighted the importance of adherence to these standards to ensure consumer safety, product quality and trust in the jewellery industry. The session was interactive, with participants engaging in discussions to clarify doubts and understand the processes better.
BIS observes Consumer Rights Day with Gram Chaupal
Khunti, March 12: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jamshedpur branch organized a Gram Chaupal Program at Arki Gram Panchayat Bhawan in Khunti today, to commemorate World Consumer Rights Day. The event aimed to educate consumers about their rights and the importance of standardization in protecting consumer interests.

The program was attended by esteemed guests, including Shri Moti Patar, Mukhiya of Arki. Around 50 participants from the local community actively engaged in the event, which highlighted the role and importance of the BIS in ensuring quality and safety of products.
During the program, participants were informed about the BIS Care App, a consumer-centric initiative that enables consumers to verify the authenticity of ISI-marked products and lodge complaints. The event also covered various standards for different product categories and other BIS activities.
The program was deemed highly successful, with participants requesting similar initiatives in the future. The BIS Jamshedpur branch reaffirmed its commitment to empowering consumers through awareness and education.
