Think beyond conventional careers: Gulmohur High School alumnus inspires young minds

Jamshedpur, June 25: Gulmohur High School hosted an inspiring interactive session with its distinguished alumnus Ajit Thakur, a member of the 1992 batch and the highest scorer of his graduating class. The session, attended by students of Classes X, XI and XII, focused on higher education, entrepreneurship, leadership and emerging career opportunities.

An Economics graduate from Hindu College, University of Delhi, and an MBA from IIM Lucknow, Thakur shared his journey from working with global companies such as Coca-Cola and Unilever to becoming a prominent figure in the media and entertainment industry. Over the years, he has held leadership roles in UTV, Eros, Star TV and Sony. He is also the co-founder of Aha, a leading regional OTT platform, and currently heads Atom Media.

Addressing the students, Thakur encouraged them to think beyond traditional career choices and embrace new opportunities. “Passion and perseverance are the true drivers of success,” he said, urging students to explore fields such as Humanities, Literature, Media, Journalism, Music, Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship. He also highlighted the importance of academic excellence, adaptability, creativity and lifelong learning.

The session included an engaging question-and-answer segment, where students sought guidance on careers, higher education and personal growth. In a special gesture, Thakur announced a paid internship opportunity in Mumbai for the school’s best student writer.

The Head Girl presented him with a sapling and invited him to Gulotsav 2K26, the school’s flagship cultural festival, which he had founded as a student in 1991. Principal Priti Sinha presented him with a letter of appreciation for inspiring students and maintaining strong ties with his alma mater.
