Jamshedpur, Oct 17: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Baharagora police intercepted two traffickers carrying 5 Kg of cannabis during a vehicle check on NH-49 near Bharat Petrol Pump, Jamsola. The suspects have been placed in judicial custody.
The arrested individuals have been identified as P Purty from Pathuri Budhamara village and Ramchandra Giri from Asna village, both in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
Acting on a tip-off, the police were alerted that the duo was transporting cannabis in a white sack on a bike from Odisha towards Chichida via Baharagora.
When signaled to stop, the suspects attempted to flee, but the police quickly apprehended them.
A search recovered 5 Kg of cannabis, two Android mobile phones, and the motorcycle used in the trafficking.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act (FIR No. 16/2025) at Bahragora police station.
The operation involved Sub-Divisional Officer Ajit Kumar Kujur, Circle Officer Rajaram Singh Munda, Station In-Charge Shankar Prasad Kushwaha, Police Inspector Rahul Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Om Sharan, Sukant Jha, Sanju Lakra, Havildar Krishna Sahu, and other police personnel.
Local residents have praised the police for their ongoing anti-drug efforts, stating that such strict actions will help curb crime and drug abuse in the area.
