Jamshedpur: The Anti-Addiction Cell and National Service Scheme unit of Jamshedpur Workers College organized an awareness program on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. The event saw enthusiastic participation from both students and faculty. The chief guest was D.K. Ranjan, Regional Deputy Director (Labor), while Dr. Ramashankar, Head of the Department of Dentistry (TMH), was the main speaker.
Principal Dr. S.P. Mahalik informed students in detail about the harmful effects of tobacco, highlighting the health risks and social damages caused by tobacco consumption. Dr. Ramashankar focused on raising awareness about oral cancer caused by tobacco use, emphasizing that tobacco harms not just physical health but also impacts social and economic wellbeing. D.K. Ranjan discussed withdrawal symptoms and ways to overcome them, encouraging students to quit tobacco with mental strength and a positive outlook.
The program included a documentary showcasing the diseases caused by tobacco and their long-term effects, leaving a deep impact on the audience. The event concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to avoid tobacco use and promote awareness among their peers.
Nodal officer Prof. Arvind Kumar Sahu, Head of Zoology Dr. Javed Iqbal, NSS coordinator Dr. Alok Kumar Chaubey, Dr. Surabhi Sinha, IQAC coordinator Prof. Kumari Priyanka, along with other teachers and students, were present. The program successfully raised tobacco-related awareness and promoted the message of addiction-free living in society.
