Ranchi, June 21: The All Jharkhand Chess Association will organize a special Grandmaster Training Camp from June 23 to June 27 at Sarala Birla University in Ranchi to help young chess players prepare for upcoming national championships.
The camp will bring together the top four players from each age category, from Under-7 to Under-19, who qualified for national competitions through various state-level chess championships held in June 2026. The initiative aims to strengthen the players’ skills and improve their performance at the national level while representing Jharkhand.
The five-day residential camp will be conducted by noted Indian Chess Grandmaster Himanshu Sharma. He became a Grandmaster in 2017 and is recognized as Haryana’s first Grandmaster. Sharma has achieved success in several national and international tournaments and has also guided many young players to notable achievements through his coaching.
During the camp, participants will receive advanced training in opening preparation, middlegame planning, endgame techniques, game analysis, tournament strategy, and mental conditioning. Players will also get an opportunity to interact directly with the Grandmaster and receive guidance on improving their individual playing styles.
The association has made coaching and registration free for all selected players. Participants will only need to pay ₹3,000 to cover accommodation and meals during the camp.
Association officials said the program is part of their efforts to provide quality training to talented players and strengthen Jharkhand’s performance in national chess competitions. Eligible players have been asked to confirm their participation by 6 pm on June 22.
