Tata Steel Felicitates NTHA Duo for India’s U-18 Asia Cup Gold

Jamshedpur, June 19: Tata Steel today felicitated Naval Tata Hockey Academy (NTHA) cadets Ashish Tani Puti and Premchand Soy, members of the Indian team that clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Men’s Hockey U-18 Asia Cup held in Kakamigahara, Japan. The felicitation ceremony was held at the Naval Tata Hockey Academy, Jamshedpur, in the presence of media representatives, sports officials, coaches, and academy stakeholders.

The Indian team emerged champions after an impressive campaign, defeating Japan 4–1 in the final to secure the country’s first U-18 Asian title in ten years. The tournament victory has also placed several young Indian players on the national radar.

Speaking on the occasion, D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said that the achievements of Ashish and Premchand reflect the strength of Jamshedpur’s sporting ecosystem and the dedication of the athletes, coaches, and support staff who have contributed to their journey. He noted that Tata Steel remains committed to nurturing sporting talent and creating opportunities for young athletes to excel at national and international levels.

Both players have been part of the Naval Tata Hockey Academy’s development programme and have showcased exceptional performances in recent years. Ashish Tani Puti, a defender from Jharkhand, finished among the tournament’s standout performers and was the top goal scorer of the competition. Premchand Soy played a key role in midfield, contributing significantly to the team’s campaign with his tactical discipline and all-round performance.

Tata Steel highlighted the role played by its sports academies and high-performance training ecosystem in developing young talent. The Company reiterated its commitment to strengthening grassroots sports and supporting aspiring athletes through world-class coaching, infrastructure, and competitive exposure.

The event also recognised the contributions of the coaching and support staff who have played an instrumental role in shaping the athletes’ careers.
