4000 police force deployed across East Singhbhum district to keep peace during Jharkhand bandh

Schools and educational institutions will remain open

Jamshedpur: In view of bandh call by all Opposition parties led by JMM against amendments in land acquisition bill , the district administration has deployed about 4000 police force across the district to tackle any untoward incident during the bandh along with magistrates. A flag march with 300 police personnel was also carried out on Wednesday across the city for more than two hours.

East Singhbhum senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anoop Birthray said that the security has been beefed up across the city. The police administration is going to deal strictly with anti-social elements who target to vandalize public as well as private property in the name of bandh. FIRs will be lodged against the culprits and the damages would be collected from the political parties who have called the bandh.

Schools and educational institutions will remain open tomorrow but parents will need to pick and drop their wards to school as public transportation will stay off the roads. Private English medium and government schools will remain open but school buses will stay off road due to the bandh.

According to information, long distance buses for Ranchi and other destinations from Sitaramdera bus terminus will stay off the road. A the 450-odd long distance government and private buses will not ply. Autorickshaws and local mini buses would also not ply.

” We are concern over the bandh called. Without passengers, there is no point in running the buses. We are worried of our security too,” said Upendra Sharma, a senior functionary of Jamshedpur Bus Owner’s Association.

Significantly, the JMM leaders are hopeful a total bandh tomorrow. An official of East Singhbhum district JMM committee, said that the administration was unnecessarily worried about the probable violence during the bandh tomorrow.

�The police officials have been asked to maintain vigil and increase their information collection networks and vigil especially in sensitive areas of city and rural areas. The administration will undertake preventive arresting of habitual trouble-mongers before the offence,� said an official.

The administration will also conduct video recordings of bandh protagonists enforcing bandh forcefully so that documents can be produced for nailing the bandh supporters. Similarly, railway authorities have also been directed to initiate actions as per Railway Act for those who enter in an unauthorized manner the Tatanagar Railway Station premises, platforms and squat on railway tracks.

“We have beefed up the security . The aim of holding such drill was help the police personnel for dealing with any situation arising out of the bandh protagonists who will come on the streets for making the Jharkhand bandh call a success. We will use `mirchi’ bombs to disperse the protestors in the event of any violence resorted to by the bandh supporters,” said another police officer.

The call for Jharkhand bandh, which is for 12 hours from 6 am, has been given by JMM and is by supported by over a dozen political outfits and social organisation. A senior police official on condition of anonymity said that the administration will resort to preventive arrest of the leaders belonging to JVM and other political outfits which are supporting the bandh in the state.
