Jamshedpur: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge XIII sentenced Ahtesamuddin alias Kabir to life sentence in Inderpal Singh murder case of Mango. It also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 20,000. Another accused of the case, Pankaj Dubey, was acquitted in the case in want of evidence.
The court also sentenced Kabir to a jail term of three years with a fine of Rs 5000 under 27 Arms Act. A total of 12 witnesses were examined in this case.
Inderpal Singh alias Mitthe was shot dead near Road No 15 in Jawaharnagar, Mango, on 5th January 2010 when he was on his way to see his ailing mother admitted at Brahmananda Hridyalaya. Motorcycle-borne assailants had opened fire on Mitthe from close range after intercepting him midway. Mitthe was taken to TMH where he was pronounced brought dead.
The murder took place at a time when the city witnessed serial crimes. Sikh community members took to the streets to protest the killing and blocked the Mango bridge for several hours.
