Ranchi: Electricity production from unit number two of the DVC’s KTPS Banjedih power plant, located in Koderma, has come to a halt for a period of 28 days. The temporary closure of this unit raises concerns about a potential power crisis in the districts within the DVC command area, as DVC relies on this plant for approximately 200 to 300 MW of electricity. However, the DVC management has reassured that there will be no adverse impact, as they will maintain normal power supply by sourcing electricity from other power plants.
It’s worth noting that the KTPS power plant has a total capacity of 1000 MW, with 500 MW generated by each of its two units. DVC depends on this plant to supply electricity to its command area.
The shutdown of power generation from unit number two is attributed to overheating issues and the need for maintenance. The Project Head of KTPS clarified that Unit No. 2 of the Koderma Thermal Power Plant will remain non-operational from October 28 to November 25. During this period, extensive overhauling and maintenance activities will be carried out on this unit, which may impact districts like Koderma, Dhanbad, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, and Chatra within the DVC Command Area.
KK Verma, the Managing Director of the Transmission Corporation, stated that the shutdown’s effects would be felt everywhere except in the DVC command area. He further assured that DVC has already engaged in discussions and will ensure uninterrupted power supply by sourcing electricity from alternative sources.
