Ranchi: In a thrilling showdown, India emerged victorious in the last match of the third day of the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, defeating China 2-1. The match unfolded at the Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium, Marang Gomke, Ranchi, and marked a sweet revenge for India, avenging their prior Asian Games defeat to China.
The initial quarter saw fierce competition between the two teams. However, it was India that capitalized on a Chinese error in the 15th minute, earning a penalty stroke. Deepika expertly converted this stroke into a goal, granting India a 1-0 lead.
The second goal for India materialized in the 26th minute of the match when Salima Tete, hailing from Jharkhand, broke through China’s defense and netted a spectacular field goal, extending India’s lead to 2-0 in the first half.
China managed to close the gap in the 41st minute, securing a penalty corner and converting it into a goal through Jiaqi Zong. Nevertheless, India maintained its 2-1 lead through the third quarter.
With this victory, India has clinched three consecutive wins and currently holds the top position in the points table. The commencement of the match witnessed the presence of Jharkhand Government Minister Champai Soren alongside hockey officials, adding to the event’s significance.
