Koderma, July 22: Koderma police here on Friday arrested a 22 year-old youth, identified as Roushan Kumar Sinha, a resident of Hazaribagh, for allegedly threatening to kill a bank manager and demanding extortion money from him.
According to Sub Inspector Soni Pratap, the accused had demanded extortion money from Pawan Kumar, Chief Branch Manager, Bank of India, Jhumri Tilaiya branch, through a telephone call yesterday. Acting swiftly, cops arrested the accused within 24 hours of the lodging of FIR by the bank manager.
Acting on the instructions of Superintendent of Police, Koderma, Kumar Gaurav, a special team was formed under the leadership of Sub Inspector Soni Pratap. With the help of its technical cell, cops arrested Roushan and recovered a keypad mobile and two SIM cards of Jio company from his possession.
“The accused is a driver by profession. About two years ago, the branch manager, during his transfer to Hazaribagh district, had taken the pickup vehicle of the accused on rent and shifted his household items to Koderma. After a few months, the financier confiscated his vehicle after the installment of his pickup vehicle was unpaid. In order to repay the loan amount of the pickup vehicle, the accused contacted the Chief Branch Manager Pawan Kumar and requested him to grant him loan. However, the bank manager refused to grant loan due to non-fulfillment of criteria by Roushan,” said Pratap.
The SI further informed that the accused had found a lost keypad mobile phone with active SIM card from the market. By using the phone, the accused started demanding extortion from the bank manager and threatened to kill him on failing to pay. The phone used by the accused belongs to a tribal woman from Chatra district whose mobile was lost in the market, said the cop.
