XITE Gamharia: Breaking taboos and promoting menstrual awareness

Gamharia, March 7: In a significant step towards menstrual health awareness, XITE Gamharia Autonomous organized a session on “Menstrual Health and Hygiene” in collaboration with the Internal Grievance Committee (ICC). The session, held under the leadership of Dr. Swati Singh, aimed to educate female students on menstrual hygiene, break societal taboos, and encourage open discussions.

Speaking at the session, guest speaker Sadaf Khanam from Koru Foundation provided valuable insights into menstrual health and hygiene. First and second-year students, along with faculty members, actively participated in the discussion, creating a safe space for young girls to ask questions, share concerns, and gain scientific knowledge about menstruation.

Encouraging Open Conversations on Menstrual Health

The session emphasized that menstrual hygiene is not just about cleanliness but also about dignity and health.  Khanam encouraged students to normalize discussions around menstruation to help reduce stigma and ensure access to accurate information and safe menstrual products.

One of the key highlights of the program was a discussion on different menstrual products, including sanitary pads, tampons, and menstrual cups, with a special focus on sustainable and eco-friendly options. The speaker also shed light on the challenges faced by women in rural areas, where limited access to sanitary products and lack of education continue to be major issues.
