Jamshedpur, May 29. A 57-year-old Kiran Devi, a resident of Gurudwara Basti, Cross Road No. 8 under Mango police station, committed self-immolation by sprinkling diesel on her body late on Sunday night.
The relatives came to know about the incident when Kiran’s husband Suresh Kumar Singh got up from his bed at night and not finding her in the room went outside and saw that Kiran had set herself on fire. Although by then she had died.
Suresh informed the Mango police about this. After getting the information, the police reached the spot and got the body kept in the mortuary of the post mortem house late in the night.
Postmortem of the dead body was done on Monday and handed over to the relatives. Kiran’s elder son Shiv Narayan told that his father used to do lighting in marriages and parties. Diesel is required in the generator, for which diesel is always kept in the house.
Late in the night, his mother (Kiran Devi) came out of the room and went to the bathroom and set herself ablaze by sprinkling diesel. On getting the information at 1.30 am, water was poured on his body, but by then she had died. According to Shiv Narayan, Kiran Devi was mentally ill. He was treated in Patna seven years ago. After taking the medicine, she got cured, but for a few months she was getting irritable on every issue.
