The Shiv Sena (UBT) launched a fierce attack on the Central government over recent fuel and gas price hikes on Monday.
Writing in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Thackeray camp termed the price increases a cruel Diwali gift for citizens.
The party accused the rulers of pushing ordinary people into financial distress during a widespread, severe drought in Maharashtra.
The editorial noted that farmers lost their crops while common citizens ran out of money.
In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, authorities raised CNG prices by Re 1 per kilogram.
This decision marks the sixth CNG price hike in six months.
Officials also raised commercial LPG cylinder prices by Rs 10.
The party mocked government defenses regarding domestic cylinder price stability.
Higher commercial gas costs directly inflate dining out and sweet purchases during Diwali.
Meanwhile, food inflation reached 7.74 percent due to drought conditions and international conflicts.
Daily staples and grains now feel like luxury items for ordinary families.
Recent Reserve Bank interest rate hikes further increased monthly home loan payments.
The Thackeray camp alleged that the government held back price hikes until five state elections concluded.
Now, uncontrolled inflation burdens citizens while leaders hypocritically urge austerity.
