Woman burnt for Rs 50,000, FIR lodged against in-laws

Seraikela: A 20 year old newly-wed woman, Laxmi Mahato, was allegedly burnt for a dowry of Rs 50,000 by her in-laws in Shantipur village on Wednesday.
Police registered an FIR against the accused persons on the complaint of Ganga Devi, mother of the deceased.

Police said the bride�s mother was informed by her in-laws that their daughter was burnt at home. On reaching the hospital, Laxmi�s family members found out that she was no more.

Ganga Devi said her daughter was married on 12th May last. She said her daughter was sent back to her maternal house just eight days after her marriage for bringing a dowry of Rs 50,000. On failing to bring the dowry, the woman was burnt to death, she said.
