Jamshedpur, April 22: The inaugural edition of the Jharkhand Open Unrated Chess Championship, organized by Trinetram Eye Hospital, concluded today with resounding success.
The one-day state-level event saw enthusiastic participation from 206 chess enthusiasts representing all districts of Jharkhand.
The highlight of the championship was the intense competition witnessed over seven rounds, culminating in the crowning of Anmol Murarka from West Singhbhum as the overall champion. Murarka’s stellar performance, scoring 7 points, earned him the winner’s title along with a cash prize of Rs 8000/- and a prestigious trophy.

Trishanu Mukherjee of Seraikela Kharsawan secured the second position with a commendable score of 6.5 points, receiving a cash prize of Rs 5000/- and a trophy. Meanwhile, Abhinav Prakash, also from Seraikela Kharsawan, claimed the third spot with 7.5 points, securing a cash prize of Rs 4000/-.
Additionally, the championship featured various age categories, with notable winners including Ridhan Goyal, T Neha, Akshat Choudhary, and Ishani Chaudhary among others. Trophies and certificates were awarded to top performers in each category, fostering a spirit of excellence and sportsmanship.
The Best Veteran Player award was bestowed upon 71-year-old Vijendra Singh Harshana, recognizing his enduring passion for the game.
The award distribution ceremony, graced by former President of Chamber of Commerce and advocate Murlidhar Kedia, celebrated the achievements of the participants. Distinguished social workers and sports directors also attended the event as special guests.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the arbiters and judges, Chief Arbiter Jayant Bhuyan and his team ensured the smooth conduct of the championship, upholding fairness and integrity throughout the tournament.
